The F100 includes such Nikon F5 advances as the 5 - area AF system for exceptionally high-speed autofocus operation with outstanding accuracy, and 3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash for incomparable flash photography.

It also introduces a new 10-segment 3D Matrix Metering system, which refers to a database of more than 30,000 scenes obtained from shooting in the field.

It works with the AF system to link focus data with exposure metering information.
